These works were my response to our vacation of the Chad Varah building.

By ‘our’ I mean the School of Art’s move from its old accommodation up on the hill in the cathedral quarter of Lincoln and down to the newly built studios on the Brayford Campus in downhill Lincoln.

I went for a final walk around once all staff and students had left – just to say farewell – but I was struck by how I felt about what I saw.

I wasn’t prepared for such a strong emotional response towards these empty spaces, so I photographed them as I found them, stripped bare of familiar content – their meaning had altered – but faintly echoed their previous use.
